Readers,
Maybe you recall my mentioning of the "occasionally necessary 'motivational' blog" in my introductory post. Well, this is it.
Over the past 48 hours I have spent serious thought on the direction of my life. I have come to some very resonant conclusions that have finally given me some serious peace in regards to my mental sanity. I have realized that I can do anything I want to do. I have realized that you can too - yes, YOU, reading this post right now. I want to say some things and I hope they aren't taken the wrong way. Firstly, college isn't for everybody. Yes, I understand I am blogging for a college course as I type this. Yes, I understand how crucial (or so it is said) to have a college degree in this today's job market. Yes, I understand the life lessons and overall satisfaction that comes with successfully graduating college and receiving that diploma.
However, there is an extensive - and I do mean extensive - list of careers that require absolutely no college degree. These careers are very rewarding and provide many benefits. I would suggest Google as a viable means of reading more about these careers. In many cases, you can find yourself making more money faster than you would spending four years working towards a degree plan only to start out at base level pay. I'm not condemning college or the experience, because it is vital for all of the cliche, Grandpa-says-you-better-do-it careers: doctors, lawyers, scientists, engineers, politicians, teachers, etc.
But what about those who don't want a boring old job that thousands of American students are competing for? What about those odd creative individuals who aspire to be rock stars, all-star athletes, Hollywood icons, Internet celebrities, even professional wrestlers. The odd jobs. The "you can't get there" jobs. The old saying is, "you can do anything you want to if you put your mind to it." Well, readers - put your mind to it. The world is big; it's filled with danger, disease, death and violence. It's a tough place. It's tough to get where you want to be in life; it's tough to get to where you even need to be. It is certainly not impossible, though. By any means.
Over the years, I have gone through the routine. I want to be this, I want to be that. I want to do this, I want to do that. Psychology, petroleum engineering, author, personal training, stunt work, and film production. Most lately, it's been the Marine Corps. It's all gone through my head. I'm sure everybody reading this post has their own mental list going through their head. Dreams, aspirations, passions. Find the passion.
Find what you really want to do. Not what somebody tells you to do, not what you think would bring the most money, not what your friend or cousin or neighbor tells you to do. Find what you alone would enjoy doing as a career, and reach for it. Grab it and take it and make it yours. There are too many people with not enough drive or ambition to truly achieve what they would like to achieve, and therefore settle for less. Much less, in some cases.
Taking note of this entirely too long tirade, I apologize if it didn't inspire you like I had hoped. I'll wrap it up. My simple message is FIND YOUR PASSION. Find it, and make it yours.

Introduction
Readers,
Welcome to the proverbial blog. Over the next ten weeks I will be popping in with a random array of 2 cent thoughts, ideas, and the occasionally necessary "motivational" blog post (coming soon). It is my hope that my blogs can be widely accepted as relevant, thoughtful, and worth reading. I am very much looking forward to reading your respective blogs as well.
Happy blogging...
